My Personality and Mentality
Personality Overview
I am a very proud girl. I am beautiful and smart, and proud to be. I can get rather vain at times, yet not superficial. I seldom wear any makeup and, when I do, it will be only mascara and perhaps some eye shadow or eye glitter.
I am a rather friendly person, although very shy. I will rarely be the first to approach someone. However, when you do approach me, I am nice.
I'm playful and hate having to bore myself with grand questions about life and the world. I'm extremely worried and prefer to take care of my own little business, although I can sometimes talk philosophy with people ready to listen to me.
I have a Doctorate in Procrastination with a specialization in making lists of things to do but that you never complete.
My friends and family matter a lot to me. I care for them, although they do not always realize I do.
I hate arguments and will avoid them as much as possible, both online and offline.
When in a good mood, I laugh a lot and have a huge Joker smile stuck on my face. I will often sing.
My worrying nature can lead me to be very pessimistic. I need to be reassured and hugged.
I love cuteness and find much beauty in nature. I however have a tendency to be in a rather down mood, where joy remains inside me for but little time.
My Mental Diseases
Yes, mental diseases, with an s as in "plural".
Asperger Syndrome
I have been diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome around the age of 12 or 13. I had shown signs from a very early age, but my parents had never bothered making me see a psychiatrist before my lack of social skills became a more serious problem. I cannot blame them, however. They have brought me up quite well, allowing me to live through a lot of very difficult moments. I have also read and been told countless of times that it is very difficult for parents to accept that their child has some form of mental disease. It is thus not easy to admit to yourself that your child's behavior is abnormal.
When I was young, I used to rock in chairs and cars, singing in an inexistent language. I still rock in cars, but I sing in English. When I arrived in school, I didn't feel the need to make friends and much preferred reading.
I rarely look into people's eyes and rarely feel the need to touch people.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
I read somewhere that it is extremely rare that AS and OCD come together in the same person, but I've always been rather unlucky.
OCD appeared quite late in me. While I always avoided walking on sidewalk cracks and never liked contact much, it was mostly just part of my Asperger Syndrome. OCD truly appeared in early 2006, while I was 17 and a half. I had just been through a very bad period of my life. I started hating to touch people's dishes, being very careful as of where I put my foot, washing my hands a lot, being disgusted by a lot of things I didn't care about before...It became serious enough for me to ask to see a psychiatrist. With the time it took, however, before I could actually meet anyone, the signs of OCD had considerably reduced. They have reappeared sometime in late July 2006, but much lower and much more controlled than they were. I believe this time they were due to the stress of work and of my upcoming move to Montreal.
Of course, they decided to become strong again in early 2007, after the winter holidays. They were probably caused partly by a broken heart.
Anything else?
I have not been diagnosed with it, but I am quite certain I also have Specific Phobia, to the point where I refuse to write that which I am afraid of.
My Beliefs
My beliefs are some kind of mixture between agnosticism, atheism and paganism.
When it comes to society and some lesser known aspects of science, I am rather uncertain. I however firmly do not believe in god.
When asked whether I think my beliefs are superior to those of others, I reply "Of course, else I would not have chosen those beliefs." To which I add that yes, there are people whose beliefs are blatantly stupid.
I do not believe in life after death. Humans are strictly made of a body and have no soul. We are animals, just like cats, butterflies and platypus.
We are a part of nature, neither superior nor inferior to any other being. While nature is necessary for us, we are also needed by nature and our actions can have important consequences (good or bad) on our environment. We are fully responsible for these actions.
I believe we are upon the earth by the fruit of several hasards and genetic mutations. I am not referring to the mutations we make in vegetables, for example, to keep them from having seeds, but natural mutations that sometimes take place in animal and vegetal species. Therefore, one day, humans, or rather our descendants, will be completely different biologically from what they are now.
Below are my answers to the Belief-o-Matic "How Religious Am I?" test, followed by my results.
- What is the number and nature of the deity (God, gods, higher power)? No God or supreme force, high priority
- Are there human incarnation(s) of God (or of gods/goddesses)? No incarnations as there is no God, hight priority
- What are the origins of the physical universe and life on earth? Only natural forces (like evolution) and no Creator or spiritual forces, medium priority
- What happens to humans after death? No afterlife, no spiritual existence beyond life, no literal heaven and hell, high priority
- Why is there terrible wrongdoing in the world? No supernatural or spiritual reasons. Human nature, psychology, sociology, criminology, etc., explain wrongdoing. High priority.
- Satan's presence results in much suffering. Not applicable, medium priority
- Why is there so much suffering in the world? None of the above: humans suffering has nothing to do with the supernatural or karma. High priority.
- Worship (as in "who do you worship?"): not applicable, high priority
- Baptism or initiation ceremonies: not applicable, medium priority
- Regularly confess or repent: not applicable, medium priority
- Doing good works (deeds) and acting compassionately is: not necessary, low priority
- Choose all statements below that represent your beliefs: humankind is "saved" through human effort rather than through religious or spiritual means.
- Elective abortion should be accepted (not proclaimed or treated as immoral): agree, medium priority
- Homosexual behavior should be regarded as immoral or out of harmony.: disagree, high priority
- Roles for men and women should be prescribed. disagree, high priority
- Divorce and/or remarriage should be restricted or punished or condemned. disagree, high priority

- Nonviolence (e.g., pacifism, conscientious objector) should be fundamental.: not applicable, low priority
- Prayer, meditation, or spiritual healing practices should be favored to the exclusion of conventional health treatment (for all serious conditions or certain types of serious conditions). : not applicable, medium priority
- Revering nature or the environment should be fundamental: agree, high priority
Five highest resulsts (neo-pagan is sixth):
- Secular Humanism (100%)
- Unitarian Universalism (92%)
- Nontheist (75%)
- Liberal Quakers (72%)
- Theravada Buddhism (67%)
Five lowest results:
- Jehovah's Witness (2%)
- Hinduism (2%)
- Roman Catholicism (7%, the religion I was brought up to)
- Orthodox Judaism (7%)
- Islam (7%)
Note, however, that while the top results seem fine to me, I got 31% for scientology, of which I share pretty much no beliefs. The wording of some questions and certain questions (for example, your opinion on abortion) can make my result higher in such a...thing...
My (Bad) Habits
Like everyone else, I have some little habits that are not always good, but generally not harmful at all.
- Those damn glasses (of water, most of the time). I have to get downstairs to get one and to fill it up with anything else than water. Also, I never seem to be able to get something else than hot or warm water from the upstairs bathroom. Thus, I go downstairs, get myself a glass and...only fill it up to something like the half. Then I go upstairs, finish it quickly and curse at myself for not filling it up more than I did.
- The glass mentioned previously will remain on my computer desk usually for several days, if not over a week. It will soon get accompanied by more glasses, and sometimes cups. While I will bring back downstairs some of the glasses, at least one of them, usually the biggest one, will remain there until a colony of humans discover it in the ruins of the apartment, amazed at this ancient artifact.
- I hate socks, above all white ones, of which I have none. When I wash my socks, I always forget several of them and, these days, I rarely end up with more than one complete pair after washing and drying them. I also have a tendency not to put them in my drawer immediately after, so the clean ones and dirty ones end mixed up.
- When I borrow books from the library, it is almost guaranteed that at least one of said volumes will be given back in late.
- When I type a word that ends with "in", I have a tendency to add an extra "g" at the end, because of words that end in "ing" and are verbally said "in'". For example, you would say goin' instead of going. Thus, "within" becomes "withing" and "Linkin" (as in Linkin Park), becomes "Linking". I do know how to spell either word, of course, but I just can't help it.
My Political Opinions
I am not much into politics. Basically, I'm just "not conservative", except on the touchy subject of abortion, where several arguments mix themselves inside my head. So here are just a few "hints" on my political views:
- Gay Marriages / Unions should be entirely legal.
- Church and State must be separated entirely. This does not mean that all politicians must be atheists, but that there should not be a dominant religion who impregnates every single law.
- I believe that taxes can truly be helpful to people. I believe in (almost) free health care.
- The government of all countries should take more actions for the protection of the environment; most noticeably increase taxes and reduce (or entirely abolish) funds going toward polluting industries, making regulations on gas consumption by cars, replacing nuclear electricity production by wind turbines and encouraging recycling.
- People must also contribute to the health of our environment, by recycling, reducing their consumption (spelling? right word?) and making better choices when it comes to their lifestyles (like not cleaning their bloody yard or watering their already deceased yellow grass after a whole summer of very hot temperatures).
- Gun ownership should be monitored more closely.
- School shootings are not entirely to be blamed on video games, which play an extremely small part in them, if any at all.
- A basic education (writing, reading, basic mathematic notions) should be free for the entire planet's population.
- Junk / fast food restaurants should be closely investigated in order to make them follow better health standards.
- Women and men have the same rights.
- I am entirely opposed to capital punishment.
- What consenting adults do in their bedroom together (or alone) is their own business. What they do it with is also of their own business.
- Child pornography and child prostitution are horrible crimes.
- War sucks, in all cases. I believe, however, that defending your own country against direct attacks is legitimate. For example, it was perfectly justifiable for the Allies to fight back against Germany & cie in World War II.
